Hunter S. Thompson Day

HSTDaySale.jpg

In the very first panel of the very first Munden's Bar story, we made reference to a proud Cynosure holiday-- instead of a President's Day sale, we had a Hunter S. Thompson Day Sale.

Sadly, this year they collided.

Hunter S. Thompson died this past Sunday, after living a life that was so rich and outsized that Garry Trudeau's roman-a-clef, Ambassador Duke Harris, didn't outshine the original.

We here at Munden's raise a glass to his memory, celebrating his brilliant work and mourning his tragic loss.

Roger Clark, Real Man of Genius

(real man of geeeeenius...)

As many of you know, we're publishing old issues of GrimJack in The Legend of GrimJack. Problem is, it's been 20+ years since these books were first printed-- and over time, we've lost some of the film, including a complete issue that would be in LoGJ#2. And the original artwork for that issue was loooooong gone-- but Timothy Truman and George Hagenaur were able to track down the guy who had gotten the original artwork for the entire issue.

That god among men was Roger Clark.

(that man was Roger...)

Roger scanned every page of the original artwork and sent it to us, so we could recreate the pages and share it with GrimJack fans, old and new alike.

(hooray!)

So here's to you, Roger Clark! Your superior skill at collecting, combined with your obvious taste in artists, makes you our Real Man of Genius.

(real man of genius...)

And we sincerely hope that saying it now, and again when the book comes out, will make up for the fact that your name got left out of the book.

Is JO under the table AGAIN?!

No, actually I'm right here. Just to let you all know I'm around but slipping in and out as deadlines take a toll. I'll be back more next week, posting more, adding to my blod, but I have GOT to get some stuff out the door or editors will come looking for me with a gun. Mike Gold, in particular, knows where i live. I'll be looking in but not posting so much for about a week. Catch up with y'all later.

Yahoo! News - Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

LONDON (Reuters) - A British woman was sentenced to two and a half years in jail Thursday for ripping off her ex-lover's testicle with her bare hands during a drunken brawl after he refused her sex.

GrimFAQs: Open thread

Mr. Gaunt asked me to ask around. He knows there are a lot of people who have a few questions about the place, it's been a while, and... well, let's be honest, we're catching him in a good mood.

So ask now, and we'll see if he feels like answering.

NEW GrimJack fans, gather here

This is a companion to, predicatably, the OLD GrimJack fans entry. There was some concern up in the Cyn-Times section from some of the old fans who wanted to talk about ALL the series but didn't want to ruin any surprises for NEW readers. So I thought we could solve it here in Munden's; what better place?

Here, we keep the talk ONLY to what has been published thus far in KILLER INSTINCT or the LEGEND OF GRIMJACK tpbs as they come out. As the writer, what I'm real interested in in is -- what did you think? What brought you to GrimJack? Why did you buy it? Do you find it interesting, accessible? Do you plan on sticking around for the rest of the miniseries? Have you bought the TPB and, if so, do you plan to buy more in the series?

Straight serious -- I love and honor the old fans because they made this possible but we NEED you new fans as well to be a success and you're in my mind when I write the book. It's not just hype that I want your feedback; it's my way of gauging how what we done either works or doesn't work. So settle in, get comfortable -- and let me know.

Much appreciated.

Old time GJ fans, gather here

There was a question raised in the letters section and I thought I'd solve it here in Munden's. There's some concern about talking baout OLD GJ stories by the "vets" -- our old time readers who want to freely discuss the series they remember but don't weant to spoil any surprises for NEW readers. So I figure we can do it here in Munden's; what better place? If you read this thread, just know we're freely talking about all the GrimJack stories. If you're a new reader and don't ant to know all that just yet, don't rad this thread. I'm creating another one specifically for you anyway.

I'll be dropping in on the conversation as I can and maybe Mike and Tim will come in and out as well. Gordon says we can run a tab. Just don't let Bob steal all the drinks.

SIT DOWN, MOOK

BarsmWebJP.jpg
You've come to the right place, mook. Pull up a chair and buy Bob a drink. Just keep those hands on the keyboard where I can see'em. Spend some time with JOHN OSTRANDER, TIMOTHY TRUMAN, and MIKE GOLD, or check out links to our buddies. Snoop around-- what do I care? But don't let Gordon catch ya.

GOOD SPACEMEN

Take it from Team Grimjack: "Good Spacemen Read Grimjack funny books." (note: absolutely no space cadets were harmed in the making of this parody.-TT)

Damn gremlins...

The Cyn-Times reports that there's an infestation of gremlins loose in the city, causing all sorts of minor havoc all over-- books flying off the shelves at the University, and so on.

No kidding. Something turned all the salt on the pretzels and peanuts to sand this morning. Lost the entire batch, although the face in the floor didn't seem to mind.

But the door to the ladies opening up to the pool of lava was just a dimensional shift. Apparently it happened last week, it's just been that long since we had a female in here.

Hey, wanna buy a thong?

I preface this by saying that Mr. Gaunt, though he's a good guy to work for, is a rotten businessman.

He sold a spaceship to a guy he liked for a credit. He once took a case for a decicred. He's insane.

I don't mean in a homicidal, snap your neck if you look at him funny kind of way. He's like that, but in the Pit that's just being prudent.

No, I mean that he's a Cubs fan.

That, combined with a bottle of Old Mink that had gone way past the expiration date, led him to make a bet with Smiling Smerta, the ex-Tourbot Salesman. And the Cubs being who they are, well...

Anyway, this is a roundabout way of explaining how there's now a whole bunch of "official" GrimJack and Munden's Bar merchandise for sale at Smiling Smerta's Bizarre Bazaar of Merchandise & Cheap Thrills. He's got beer steins, coasters, shirts, boxer shorts, even Demonstar replica buttons. Though we did insist on a few that said "No Tourbots". Smerta nearly burst his frilbick over that, but Mr. Gaunt can be persuasive when he's irritated.

Go buy some. Please. The more money this stuff makes, the faster Mr. Gaunt will be out of this lousy mood. And we'll need the cash to pay for the repairs from his lousy mood.

P.S.: It seems that some enterprising soul hacked Smerta's computer system. You can save $5 off on orders of $50 or more. When you check out, use Coupon Code: VDAY50. But hurry, the hack is only going to last until February 3.
